Are you ready America? Tonight, the game we’ve all been waiting for kicks off. The #1, undefeated Notre Dame Fighting Irish take on the #2, SEC Champion Alabama Crimson Tide in a game for the ages to determine the National Championship. There’s been a lot of debate over this game since the last game for these teams, and the public opinion is pretty much split on the expected winner. Who will be holding the crystal ball at the end of this one? Let’s break it down position-by-position:
- QB Edge: Alabama
- Running Back Edge: Even (Notre Dame’s backs catch more passes, Alabama’s backs rush more. They cancel out)
- Wide Receiver Edge: Alabama
- Tight End Edge: Notre Dame
- Offensive Line Edge: Alabama
- Defensive Line Edge: Notre Dame
- Linebacker Edge: Notre Dame
- Defensive Back Edge: Notre Dame
- Special Teams Edge: Notre Dame
- Coaching Edge: Alabama
As far as a game prediction, this one is pretty tight. This will be the most-watched game in BCS Championship history without a question. There is no way this will be a high-scoring game. That being said, I am going to go with defense, and the better defense will be the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Add another slot under the 1988 one on the National Champions board. Crown Kelly and the Irish. They’ll be celebrating in South Florida after this one as they add another title to the Notre Dame lore, the most historic college football program of all time. Manti Te’o, Tyler Eifert and the seniors walk out winners. The Prediction: 17-13 Notre Dame

Not to beat a dead horse, but I’ve asked this question to a few others and I’m curious. All of you who picked Notre Dame picked a low-scoring defensive battle. Now, I get that was the only hope Notre Dame had to win, there was no way they could win a shootout.
Having said that, what was it about Notre Dame’s defense that made you think they weren’t completely over-matched? For me, the thing theat kept sticking in my head was the fact that defense got pushed around by Pittsburgh, and while they didn’t give up a lot of points, they still let Pittsburgh have every opportunity to win, And if it wouldn’t have been for a missed field goal, ND wouldn’t even have been in this game.

Hope you didn’t put any money on that outcome.
